Networking
The NSCA brings together strength coaches, sport coaches, sport scientists, researchers, educators, sport medicine professionals (physical therapists, physicians, and athletic trainers), and personal trainers. The association provides educational resources and opportunities for its members and strives to develop and promote the profession of strength training and conditioning.
I read. I talk to others in the field or related fields. Other people know the answers; you just have to know where to find the other people. They are not always in your direct field. I understand I only know a small bit of information and am always learning.
—Lori Chaplin, MA, CSCS
Never brush anyone off. Networking with professional peers on all levels in all levels of expertise can be very enlightening. I try to pull something from everyone. From the high school ATC, to the sport science engineer, to the college level nutritionist. Being open-minded and absorbing information from others has allowed me to develop my own philosophies.
—Dana Healy, MA, CSCS, Strength and Conditioning Coordinator for the U.S. Olympic Training Committee (OTC), Sport and Technology
