NSCA Fellowship Guidelines

  • Fellowship Requirements

    Applicants to the NSCA Fellowship program must fulfill certain absolute requirements, listed below.

    1. Shall have earned a Master's or doctoral degree from an accredited college or university in kinesiology, exercise science, physical therapy, athletic training, nutrition, physical education, or a health-related field.
    2. Shall have been a NSCA member for a total of at least 10 years, including the last five years immediately prior to applying for Fellowship.
    3. Shall have attended at least seven NSCA Annual Conferences in the past 10 years. At least five of these conferences must be the NSCA National Conference & Exhibition. Other annual conferences include the NSCA Personal Trainers Conference, NSCA Coaches Conference, and NSCA Performance Symposia.
    4. Shall have received a letter of recommendation from two NSCA Fellows.
    5. Shall have submitted one curriculum vita that consists of distinguished professional service and contributions to the NSCA using the headings listed under the "Professional Contributions" tab, and meeting the requirement for professional contributions (125 points).
    6. Shall have paid a $100 one-time lifetime application fee.
    7. Individuals who do not meet these requirements may appeal to the NSCA Fellowship Committee for an exemption due to extraordinary circumstances.

    Professional Contributions

    In addition to the aforementioned absolute requirements, candidates shall have demonstrated an exemplary record of service and leadership to the NSCA. 

    This requirement must be met by combining points from all of the following four categories to total at least 125 points. This requirement of 125 points begins the review process.

    Currently NSCA-CSCS certified    6 points
    Currently NSCA-CPT certified   4 points
    Currently recognized as a NSCA Coach Practitioner   6 points
    Hosted a NSCA CSCS and/or a NSCA-CPT certification exam   2 points/exam hosted
         
    Minimum of 30 and maximum of 50 points from this category 

    4. Subjective Contributions to the NSCA

    Discuss your personal history of service and positive contributions to the NSCA over the past 10 years. Be sure to include accounts that reflect on your character, dedication, and respect for the NSCA. Discuss how you will continue your commitment to the NSCA if advanced to Fellow status. Be sure to include any information regarding your commitment to the mission of the NSCA that was not adequately covered in this application. Limit your answer to 600 words.
