Can a personal trainer give general recommendations based on BMR and TDEE?

I know that personal trainers cannot give individualized nutrition plans to clients.  PTs can provide information about general guidelines, but cannot tell a client specifically what to do ("Whole wheat bread has more nutrients than white bread," but NOT "Don't eat white bread").


I'm wondering how this applies to BMR and TDEE calculations.  Can a trainer input a client's weight, height, gender, and body fat % into those, talk about what they mean and how the body COULD respond if total calories went above or below those numbers?
