LectureWith the declining health of our population and the epidemic of chronic disease, a door has opened for a new breed of personal trainer to step up and complement the medical field. Conventionally, medical interventions rely upon pharmaceutical and surgical procedures. This session will share both perspectives and strategies for utilizing an exercise intervention to deliver dramatic change, not only in performance and body composition, but also in the key biomarkers of health. Comparisons between exercise-induced outcomes and pharmaceutical results will change the way you think about disease, about wellness, and about the role that personal trainers can play in initiating cures to the largest segment of our population. Recognition of this opportunity prepares the evolving personal trainer for new levels of emotional and financial reward.
LectureThe Paleo diet has become immensely popular in recent years, receiving a lot of press in both the lay and academic media. However, not all of the claims of its superiority for weight loss, health promotion, disease prevention, and performance enhancement have a scientific basis. The well-supported claims and ill-supported claims surrounding the Paleo diet will be examined in this session, and practical applications will be drawn from the current evidence.
Hands-OnNo gym, no weights, no problem. Discover smarter ways to perform classic bodyweight exercises along with a multitude of new, hybrid bodyweight exercise variations and protocols all guaranteed to develop a stronger, functional, and better-looking body. Whether you run a boot camp, train at home, or are just looking for some new moves and workout challenges, this movement workshop will show you how to develop world-class functional strength and fat loss workouts at a moment’s notice wherever you are.
Hands-OnThis session will break down the key components to designing an effective training session for improving body composition. This hands-on session will cover how to warm-up properly (self-myofascial release, movement preparation and activation drills) for the strength training portion of a training session, as well as discuss some different strategies for clients of varying fitness levels. As a result, attendees will leave with a better understanding of the thought process that should be considered when designing body composition training sessions for clients.
LectureDo you use kettlebells in your program design? Whether or not you utilize kettlebells in your training programs, this session will challenge your use of this unique training product by summarizing the research that has been published on this topic. Specifically, the benefits and drawbacks of kettlebell use will be discussed through the lens of the scientific studies that have been conducted on kettlebells. Body composition, strength and power development, metabolism, and low back pain will be discussed as well.
Hands-OnTake core conditioning to an entirely new level with this practical session. Participants will learn how to build the most powerful, stable and athletically capable core possible by blending TRX Suspension and Rip Training in a highly effective fusion.
LectureLow-carbohydrate diets have been gaining ground in the scientific literature as an effective alternative to the high-carbohydrate diets recommended by national and international health organizations. However, some proponents of the low-carbohydrate approach contend that it is universally superior to other diets for improving body composition, health, and performance. This point/counterpoint discussion will examine the scientific validity behind this claim.
Hands-OnThis "hands-on" session will provide an interactive opportunity for personal trainers to learn proper Battling Ropes techniques based on the research findings of Dr. Mike Martino, Professor at Georgia College and Owner of Bodyplex Milledgeville. He will also share how his health club has successfully incorporated the Battling Ropes in to their one-on-one and small group personal training business. In addition, a discussion about proper rope length, diameter, and mass will be included.
LectureMost trainers are aware of the importance of the gluteus maximus for everything from assisting in ambulation to producing force and power in sports. But there is a lot to be learned about this incredible muscle. In this session, attendees will learn the five major roles of this muscle as well as how to train it in the weight room optimally. Furthermore, attendees will gain an understanding of the varying amounts of torque and muscle activation throughout the full range of motion, providing insight on how exercise selection can be optimized for functional adaptation.
Hands-OnBands and pulleys have become some of the hottest functional training modalities recently and there are hundreds of exercises to choose from. This session will cover the technique and application of the top 10 band and pulley exercises. This session will also show attendees how these 10 exercises can be integrated into traditional workouts, used on the road for traveling workouts, as well as provide on-field group workouts.

LectureLearn how to safely include athletic movements into your programs, and discover which training methods are inappropriate for non-athletic populations. After attending this session, attendees will feel more comfortable when pushing clients safely without increasing the risk of injury.
LectureMany clients have injuries. Most of them still aspire to achieve high levels of fitness, lose body fat, and be as functional as possible in their daily lives. This session will teach attendees simple ways to handle injuries so clients can continue to maximize their efforts in the gym.
Hands-OnIndividuals will learn proper top-down progressions for teaching the Snatch, Clean, and Jerk. This hands-on session will allow attendees to learn proper progressions and alternate exercises which will help with assisting and correcting errors in these exercises.
Hands-On |
Are you ready to see what you are made of? This session will challenge you to see if you have the mindset, the physical prowess, and the sheer willpower to finish this ultimate workout challenge. This will be a quintessential, innovative TD experience that combines high energy, IMPACT chants, and of course, the IMPACT Challenge. Attendees will learn new exercises to train and challenge clients, have a ton of fun, and experience a workout that will not be soon forgotten. In addition, one male and one female will be crowned as overall “IMPACT” Champions.
LectureHealth and fitness advocates have successfully spread the message that exercise and weight control are important. Surveys show that few of us exercise hard enough, long enough, and consistently enough to achieve meaningful results. Even worse, studies consistently show that between half and two-thirds of those who begin a workout program quit within just six months. But what about the ones who do not quit? What can we learn from the individuals who go from sedentary to fit and active? This session will look at the reasons why people begin, end, and/or stick with exercise routines, and how fitness professionals can help or hinder their motivation and resolve.
Hands-OnMany trainers have clients that enjoy running for recreational and competitive activities. We often assume running is an innate skill that everyone should know how to do correctly, but often this is not the case. This session will provide attendees with a 4-point coaching model that can be used to teach anyone how to optimize their running technique for improved performance. The technical guidelines that will be shared are used by some of the top sprinters and endurance athletes in the world in an effort to reduce injuries and maximize performance outcomes. The techniques and drills taught in this session can easily be used to generate a running-based class within the personal training environment.
Hands-On |
Metabolic training is one of the most misunderstood and abused forms of training today. As people make the leap from the classic forms of aerobic training of the last three decades, metabolic training in many ways has become a “free for all” that involves high quantities of low-quality work. Since metabolic training can be a great way to burn fat and build muscle, it must be better understood and practiced. The hands-on portion of this session will demonstrate the current science behind metabolic training as well as the practical rules and workouts to follow in order to produce maximal results from this powerful style of training. The session will also feature different forms of warm-ups, circuit training, and Tabata-style training.
LectureThis session will examine how to utilize the current research literature to design safe and effective resistance training programs for aging adults. Special attention will be focused on how to make evidence-based exercise prescription decisions related to dosing of exercise.
Hands-OnIn this session, attendees will be exposed to a variety of drills and techniques focused on improving movement efficiency, mobility, and stability through vector training, neuromuscular activation, and accentuated eccentric loading for injury prevention and performance.
LectureIt is important for fitness facilities and personal training professionals to be prepared to handle emergency situations. Failure to be equipped to address emergencies can lead to litigation or even death of a client. This session will address various emergency scenarios within the setting of personal training, the development of emergency action plans, and strategies for reducing liability.
LectureThis session will provide an insightful overview of how the nervous system controls and develops muscles. The session will explain the essential relationship between maximal strength, power, and hypertrophy in order to achieve elite performance and physical development. From the basis of motor unit regulation and enhancement, the session will show attendees how to design training programs for everyone from professional athletes to weekend warriors based on their goals and limitations. In addition, the session will outline scientific and time-tested progression methods along with loading and frequency guidelines that will deliver outstanding muscle-building results.
Hands-OnUsain Bolt, the 2012 Olympic Champion and World Record holder reportedly smuggled his jump rope into the Olympic stadium. He made it known to the world that it was an integral part of his training and warm-up to winning the 100 and 200-m races in the Olympic Games. Attendees of this session will experience the most revolutionary jump rope training system in the world used to train Champion athletes. This session will teach attendees the secrets to mastering this amazing training tool, the building blocks to fitness (biomechanics, basic skills, programs), and show the incredible benefits of this type of training. This session will also feature a special guest – Annie Maria Bissoondial, the 2012 Guinness Book of World Records for the most jumps in one hour.
Hands-OnThis session will embrace fundamental principles and concepts for training young athletes through all the components of physical fitness. Utilizing minimal equipment through a hands-on practical approach that is interesting, challenging, and safe can be very motivating. The use of proper movements for the correct developmental stage of growth is paramount. Designing a diversified regimen that is focused on a task-oriented approach based on the individual’s achievements, rather than norms, can be the deciding factor in an athlete’s future endeavors. Anyone can make someone tired, but not everyone can design a program that begins and ends with a purpose. It is more than just weights, reps, and sets.
